War Zone

I am amazed. I live in a town where a residential street in a "good" part of town, can be a scene in a war zone with bullets flying up the street and then it is not reported the next morning!!!!! I must live in a war zone for this kind of thing not to be in the news the next day!!!!!!!!

I can't believe we didn't hear anything being so close. It makes you wonder how much more is going on - only a small fraction gets reported.

The unfortunate thing is that, unless this kind of event happens in the lilly-white suburbs of any major metro area in this country, there's little to no interest in carrying the story on local media outlets.

Thankfully you and D escaped any injury or involvement. It's certainly something that should concern you, and lead you to be cautious, but don't let the chilling effect take hold and make you two prisoners in your own home.

Hopefully it is a rare event--when it begins to happen on a more constant basis, it might be time to find a new place to live.

Where we lived (Broadmoor, corner of Walmsley and Rendon) we would hear gunshot fire about once a week. Usually in the distance. It was part of the "night noise." But there were a few occasions when the gunfire was just outside the door (someone had their back window shot out in front of the old Rendon Grocery).

I guess we became numb to all of this. But it was enough of a concern that when I did hear gunfire relatively close, I did call the police, and they did come out. Even though the NOLA-PD has a bad reputation, I still would call them whenever you hear something like gunfire. Put pressure on them to come out.
